Jumpcut

I don't know what I did different but I got my jumpcut 'Curious George' movie Html to work in this blog.
I could not get it to download here during the 23 Things. I emailed it to myself and brought it in through email.
The movie was not changed much from the actual video from my camera: I added a title and did a little editing.
Thank you very much.

Thing 23

I did not make a 'comment' in the survey; sorry.

This is my one word for this experience:
Fantastic!

Thank you very much.

Thing 22

I am so grateful for this opportunity. I have learned more than ... I can't think of an appropriate word to finish the sentence.
I would like to do some Webinars. Our system has encouraged us to do Webinars; now I am inspired to do so.

I was not competent in all of the 23 Things, so I would like to try again; practice.
RSS interest me and the computer I have used for this project will not allow me to save anything for any length of time.
I like the idea of 15 minutes a day. I can handle that just standing at the circ desk between patron check-outs.
Did I say that I am grateful?
I didn't realize how fun an email account can be. MySpace was a scary thing to me until now. YouTube, heck, I can't wait to do something with that. I feel as giddy as a kid because of this opportunity. I feel fresh and hip and full of ideas.
This experience has opened me up to the world. I was in a corner; forced upon by my lack of knowledge and by my avoidance, but NOT ANY MORE. I am liberated!
Did I say that I am grateful?
Did I answer your blog prompts?
Thank you very much.

Thing 21

Well, I feel silly. I put a real person picture on the 23 Things On a Stick Ning. I should have been more generic.
I can see some positive things with social networking. Until today I have not been a member of any online communities.
I am going to see what happens with the Group I created on facebook before I get too involved in a social network.
I know, the URL is not what you wanted here, but I am leaving it. OKAY?
http://www.ning.com/?view=search&term=Search+Ning
Thank you very much.

Thing 20

I tried again this a.m., to get a podcast sent to Thing 19. Sorry. I am disappointed because the recording sounded so good.
So, I moved on to Thing 20.
I signed into facebook. Checked out some of the 1,878 photos dealing with crocs; the shoe.
Funny.
I even created a GROUP. I am interested in library job sharing. I would like to go away for a few months at a time and work at a library. I would like them to work and live in my life and I in theirs. Doesn't that sound fun?
Of course, my boss would have to approve, but that is just a minor detail.
I have wanted to set up a MySpace, so I did.
I want to do one for the McGregor Library. It could be a great place to show 'n tell, blog and whatnot.
Just a note; I have been printing out all the instructions and info for each thing and 20, 21, and 22 don't want to completely print. No big deal, just wanted you to know.
Did I answer all your blog prompts?
Thank you very much.

Thing 19

I have worked on a podcast for several hours.
I recorded a reading, got it saved on a CD-RW only to have it disappear on me in an attempt to transfer and add to the disk.
I then did a 'test' music podcast and can't get it to move into my blog.
I used two different sites: First was done on My Podcast WavePad Master's Edition
and the second on Gcast
I am frustrated.
It is very late and I am going home.
I will have to work on the other THINGS tomorrow.
I do like the idea of podcasts and I will figure it out!
Thank you very much.

Thing 18 continued

I like videos. I have used them in a couple situations. I discovered that there was no embedding in Jumpcut. I created a video there but it changed format and would not be embedded into my blog.
I am using one of the libraries public computers to do the 23 Things. This computer is 'deep freezed' so I can not save on it or do RSS. It makes it difficult.
I will be making a tree house, that is why I picked the video I did.
I did enjoy the library commericals and tours.
I would like to do the same for my branch. I have for years made videos as a promotion for Summer Reading Program. They have always been on VHS, this year I will go digital.
Thank you very much.

Thing 18

Thing 17 continued

This has not been a easy assignment.
I could not open any of the videos.
I had difficulty opening EBSCO.
The search went well but web page design was slow and then locked up the computer (hour glass but not action).
I finally set a background on the web page, so I emailed my page, saved it to the desktop of this computer, and tried to put the URL in my blog.
I did what was told to do in News #8, but think did something else wrong.
I them opened the web page in word; did a copy paste and put it in my blog.
I am trying everything. This has been a long road.

WE, at ECRL, just had ELM Training with Carla a Minitex Reference Services.
Searching was not the problem with this assignment.
Of course, Carla never showed us how to set up a web page. Interesting...
Thank you very much.

Thing 17

This is a test.
I am creating this web page as part of Thing 17 of the 23 Things On a Stick.
I don't know what the use is but that understand may come later.
Thank you very much.

Thing 7

This Thing is out of order because I forgot to blog about seven. I am trying to figure out how to rearrange the order.

I like email most of the time. I still do best just picking up the phone.
Our system encourages email use and it works well. It is very basic and business.
I don't have a cell phone so have never used text messaging by phone. I have in the past text messaged - internet to cell phone.
I have not taken any Webinars. However, our system does encourage us to check them out.
Thank you very much.

Thing 16

I have never heard of an Assignment Calculator. I could use this outside my library life.
I think giving these tools to students will encourage them to start...
Thank you very much.

Thing 15

I waited over five minutes for the Puzzle Pirates to open. I played bilging for awhile. It was fun. Then I got lost in the game and gave up.
I am not a game player.
I then set up an account with Second Life, which was not easy; many steps.
My name is Mavis Zimermann. Where do people find the time!?
I liked the Ohio University video.
Thank you very much.

Thing 14

Well, I was making a list of books in the LibraryThing when a pop up said that they were shutting down (scheduled outage) at midnight eastern for 1-4 hours.
So, I got 3 books in my list. I am doing my Christmas books. The titles I added were very hard to find because there are so many versions.
I should do my pop-up books next.

http://www.librarything.com/addbooks
Thank you very much.

Thing 13

I did a 'My Yahoo' start page. Interesting because I have a yahoo email address and now I can do it all on one site. It will be my permanent homepage. There is everything you could ever want; news, weather, etc.
I have never had my own email until recently. I have always just used our in-house email at the library. Wow, have I missed a lot; calendar, lists, news, RSS...you can put it all there in your email.
Who can see my ta da list? Is it private? Is my email private?
My son just told me that gmail is better than yahoo. He said it has more options. I will check it out.
I am interested in 'remember the milk' and sticky-notes, net.
Thank you very much.

Thing 12

I am learning so much. I think I am slower than most because I get confused easily, but I can't believe all that I am learning.
To be able to locate an article again by 'sharing' is great. I print things out all the time and have stacks of pages...now I can just create a file of links and elimitate the print.
Can I put these links in a wiki?
This link is do a tree house story.
How long to stories and articles stay on a website?
Thank you very much.

Delicious Thing 11

I set up a del.icio.us account but not sure where it will take me.
I looked at Minn23 and was surprised to find "modified librarians."
Our system could use something like this for sharing job tips and book reviews.
I don't feel our staff is well connected perhaps, this would help.
Or do have the wrong impression of this tool?
Thank you very much.

Thing 10

Surprise! I was able to add a comment to the 23 Things On a Stick Wiki.
I can see a wiki working great for programs at the library; whose doing what and when
I like Wikipedia. I use it all the time and find the information easy to read and understand, and just as believable as any other site on the web. Shouldn't you always check more than one source?
Until now, I had no idea how to 'edit' the information.
Thank you very much.

Thing 9

I was unable to do any document editing.
I like Google Docs.
This is just great. I had no idea these types of sites existed.
Thank you very much.

Thing 8

Thing 8

I have no idea what I am doing wrong.
I have been working on getting my creation from 'picturetrail' and just haven't figured it out.
So, I am moving on.
I like what you can do in 'picturetrail' but don't like the "penny's friends" that automatically appeared.
I think a person needs to watch what they are posting on some of these sites. It doesn't seem secure, or am I just paranoid?
Thank you very much.

Thing 6 of the 23

Under Image Chef I created my own design. The "Go With GOD" logo didn't turn out as good as I hoped, but I like this program.
We do a Lights of Love Program fund raiser every December...I can see using this to create a logo for it and doing some new and exciting things with the powerpoint.
Thank you very much.

Thing 6. Online Image Generators

I created a trading card! I could do better.
I can see that you could spend lots of time playing and designing.
This is fun.
Thank you very much.

I could get lost in these mashups forever;

Thing 4. Photosharing with flickr

Why this worked for me today and not last night is a question to me.
I am so happy it worked.
I will use this. It is fun. I so enjoyed looking at the photos by others.
And I figured out how to put my picture in the blog. I need to reduce the size of it. I will figure that out later.
Next, I will try to add a photo of the weather we are having today.
Thank you very much.

Thing 4 = flickr

Well, I set up a flickr account and put the MN Sesquicentennial Banner and a 150 Years of Statehood Flag on the page.
I am doing option B. I will have to finish tomorrow.
Thank you very much.
